About me

About Me

Hello, my name is Carmen and I live in sunny Florida. I hope that after reading more about me and how I started my online business with Affiliate Marketing you too can be on your way to do the same. Before I continue, I want to make it very clear that this is not a get rich quick type of scheme or MLM business nor do you need to be techy nor be an internet guru to build an online business that can bring you residual income for years to come.

When did I start thinking about an online business?

Several years ago I started to consider building an online magazine.  The first thing I did was make an outline of my business plan on paper. However, I quickly realized that I did not know how to go about starting the business online. Sure, I searched the internet for ideas but what I ended up with was an email inbox so full of offers and promises to get rich or make tons of money that I could not figure out which were the legitimate companies I could use in launching that business.

Overwhelmed by so much information!

Overwhelmed with so much conflicting information, I put the idea on the back burner and continued working and dreaming that someday I would figure out a way to make it happen. I thought, “perhaps when I retire I will give it a try”. However, little did I know I would start my journey sooner than that and I am very glad that I did.

Some of you probably have had the same experience going online to search for business opportunities. Perhaps you have given up the idea or become as overwhelmed as I have been. However, the fact you are reading this means there is a glimpse of hope left in you that moves you towards taking action and pursuing the goal of building a legitimate online business.

My Story

I currently work a full-time job which I enjoy. However, in preparation for the retirement years, which most of us expect will be financially “leaner”, I decided it was time to work on building an online business that would provide residual income during my retirement years.

I still had to figure out what steps I needed to take to get started. Since I already work from home, I did not want to build a business that would require commuting in my retirement years. Both my husband and I work from home and enjoy the flexibility and time we get to spend together.

Preparing to enjoy the things we enjoy.

One of our golfing trips.

We share a passion for golf and want to be able to retire and live our dream of traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada to golf at different courses. In order to continue to afford to enjoy our favorite sport, I know that we need to ensure that our retirement income can be supplemented by more than just our Social Security checks. Who knows where those will be by the time we start collecting ours.

That is the reason I returned to my initial search of online business opportunities, but this time I was determined to research and find a company willing to help someone like me with no website design experience and who has no coding experience. All l I had done was search the internet, read articles and interact on social media with friends and family.

In my current job, where I do project management, onboarding new clients, and electronic form design, I do not handle any type of website design, therefore, I had no idea how to even begin, but I knew that with persistence and determination I would be on my way to building my online business.

My prior business experience.

My prior business experience was outside the internet arena. For most of my life, I have worked in Management in manufacturing, the service industry, education and now in Professional Services. However, I also help start and run a private academy as well as a used car.

I know that starting a regular business requires several things:about business

  1. A good business plan
  2. Enough capital to sustain the business during its initial years
  3. A physical location
  4. Related business licenses
  5. Staff
  6. Equipment (IE: office supplies, equipment, etc)
  7. Marketing/advertising to draw customers to your business location – limited to customers in that locality
  8. Hours away from home running the business

You can only hope you can turn a profit within 2-4 years.

How about MLM businesses?

I also tried MLM companies, such as Amway, Mary Kay, Tupperware, EcoQuest and Jafra cosmetics only to find that the people at the very top were the ones making all the money.

I spent countless hours listening to motivational tapes (I was required to purchase even without making a profit),  I attended conferences with expenses coming out of my pocket for hotel, food, and travel in addition to inventory purchases which were required, “if you really wanted to be successful”.

What did I end up with? Inventory I had to either give away as gifts or use for myself, eventually throwing some away. I also ended up with a ton of motivational tapes and a credit card maxed out due to having so many expenses yet I had made no profit.

I had to dip into my savings to pay off the credit card. It was a large investment with nothing to show after following “the plan” and the steps given to me.

Why am I helping others?

helping hands

My most rewarding work, which I earned no money for but derived immense joy in doing, was community service.

For about 10 years I worked with community groups mentoring young people, women and providing needed services to low-income families. My family also served many of the Tampa Bay homeless providing much-needed blankets in the winter and warm meals.  I found helping people very rewarding and fulfilling.  Seeing people do better with our help was a great feeling.

I hope that from reading this you understand that I truly enjoy helping and guiding others. I will be happy to help you as well to build your own online business along with a wonderful community of people who are all doing the same thing and offer a vast amount of knowledge.

The results of my search for a legitimate online business.

After doing my research I knew that I wanted to have a business that I grow and do from home and that when I am away on vacation, the income continues to come into my account. When I found Wealthy Affiliate I can truly say that I found a legitimate company with integrity that I am proud to be working alongside in building my business.

I started several months ago but I am already seeing my websites generating income, albeit slowly but it is just the beginning. If you think there is too much competition for you to even make an income online, think about the fact that this generation does most of their shopping online and are very internet savvy.

That includes the older generation. In fact, my 84-year-old dad learned to go online and surf the internet and get a Facebook account. Gotta love it!

With over 322 million people just in the U.S. and approximately 35 million in Canada and over 7 billion worldwide, the amount of potential customers is unlimited.

Go to the Get Started tab and read more on how you too can build a successful online business that will generate residual income for years to come.

Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, a retiree, college student, working a full or part-time job and want to explore how you can work and grow an online business without a major financial investment I am here to help you succeed.

    Carmen,

I admire your work ethic and your desire to help other people, especially the disadvantaged. I am new to WA but I can already tell that it is a great site and resource for people to start a business online. Keep up the good work!

Thank you Zach. I learn a lot by helping others and the growth is mutual. The questions raised by someone you help out might be what propels you forward to your own next level of growth. WA is a great resource and tool but at the end of the day, it takes personal commitment and time to succeed.

I really like your sincerity here. Any time i come across a new website i find myself gravitating toward the “about me” page. Yours is a good one and I appreciate your being upfront so much more than so many other sites I’ve come across.
